Artificial intelligence leverages computers and machines to mimic the problem solving and decision making capabilities of the human mind. We had three groups do fantastic presentations on Artificial intelligence and how they are affecting or changing different topics for the better or for the worse.
The first group that presented was group three. This group was assigned to speak about Artificial intelligence in social life, entertainment, and potential careers. I learned during this presentation that some people are all for the upcoming changes while some others are not. Artificial intelligence is starting to become more involved in all categories, In social life and entertainment including television and writers AI generative systems are predicted to write scripts for TV shows. These systems will be able to generate actors and add diversity and very realistic imagery. There are some advantages and disadvantages, for example it generates almost instantly and for a fraction of the cost but it's bad because they will be taking jobs from the people who currently do this job right now. Open AI company's founder Greg Brockman said this is just “a simplification of what humans can do”, they are meant as assistance and not total replacement. TV & film extras are worried they will be completely replaced by Artificial intelligence. Groups representing these studios are saying it's not their intention to completely replace these actors. There has been apps created that you can download in your phone and use to create content. Group three actually put a slide and listed a few which for art some include Down AI, Wonder AI and for music Melodia. The group also spoke about how AI can help with potential careers like teaching. They listed some pros and cons such as it can be efficient and time saving by helping teachers grade and things like that but can also be bad because if everyone gets used to technology they start getting lazy and forgetting to do things or no longer learning certain things because its easier for AI to do it. The part that mostly caught my eye in the froups presentation was when they spoke about Ai and healthcare, when they said that pictures can be used as a diagnostic tool i immediately thought about a show i was watching about healthcare called New Amsterdam, they actually tried a program out just like that and it was very efficient but the doctor was old school and wasnt really into the idea of the new technology.
Group two was the next group that presented. They spoke about how Artificial intelligence affects both the mental health system and the economy. They spoke about what the government is doing with AI. They mentioned that Biden Harris administration established a blue print of AI bill of rights, with the release of National Institute of Science and Technology AI risk management along with the National Artificial Intelligence Research and Development which is used to determine the risk and benefits of AI while outlining migrations through either existing laws or new laws that will address issues in areas that AI will most affect. The part i found most interesting in this groups presentation was when the spoke on AI and the impact it may have on the economy. According to statistics, stated by World Economic Forum AI would take away 85 million jobs globally by 2025 and generate 97 million new jobs. This worries me a little bit because they also said that workers with employments that are using AI will eventually have to develop new skills due to how advance the technology is, lack of the development will eventually lead to job loss and AI “takes over”. The group also discussed the forms AI is currently being used eith mental healthcare workers. I found it so cool when they mentioned that there is such thing as a chat-bot such as Woebot, which is a AI robot that adapts to the circumstances of the person and can give tips, different forms of therapy and talking exercises which help the condition or way they are feeling. Watches such as Biobeat , which can read vital signs such as heart pressure and blood pressure and can collect information on how the user is feeling and can notify you if anything is elevated due to stress with a pop up message or an alert to tell you to take a moment to breathe or call for help.
Lastly the group included what MDC has done to address artificial intelligence and they actually listed all the classes MDC is offering and to my surprise its about 4 classes that they are currently offering which is pretty interesting and they listed everyone so that makes it easier if any one wants to enroll.
The last group to present was my own group which is group one. We had education and sports with AI. Janelys started off by comparing and contrasting how AI has changed in education for the good or bad in the last 5 years. The good is that during the COVID-19 pandemic accelerated the adoption of online learning, and AI played a crucial role in making remote education more effective and accessible. The bad is is an over reliance on AI and technology in education can lead to students using AI programs to do work assignments. Britney also spoke on the challenges of AI in education and the drawbacks such as students lack of motivation. AI could reduce the humanity of learning and students cheating because they can use AI to finish homework, assignments and quizzes. Genise listed all the pros and cons of AI in the future and some pros include that AI can personalize learning lessons to individual student needs. Chatbots can engage students and students can have access to vast amount of information. Some cons she stated are job displacement, students will become overly depended on AI systems and potential AI errors. The sports section was my absolute favorite part of the whole entire assignment. I am very big into sports i attend a lot of different games and i even have a Miami Dolphins tattoo so i was really excited i was able to do this part of the presentation. AI is transforming the sports industry in many ways. It is making the training process competitive and more efficient. AI is helping prevent player injuries by using wearable technology to track player movement and collect data on their physical exertion during games and practices. AI is also being used to improve fan experience by being able to enjoy real-time stats and game highlights on their smartphones through the NFL’s official app. With AI & the nfl draft teams are leveraging machine learning algorithms and predictive analytics to identify top-performing college players that fit their teams specific needs. Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans are two NFL teams that are leading the way in the adoption of AI technology. At the Dolphins and Chargers game they actually had AI robots sitting in the stands and it went viral online. Denise was actually able to interview a baseball player named Michel Triana and she asked him a few questions about AI. Thats really cool that she was able to do that, i also am really into baseball. Lastly Claudia and Hailey were able to get a response from Maxwell Stiss from the Miami Dolphins. They claim they are in the very early exploring use cases with AI. There wasnt much she can share with us right now but it's very neat that she actually responded.
In Conclusion, all teams did a great job in the presentations and everyone shared a bunch of valuable information. Each team also had key things that caught my eye and had me locked in. It's very interesting all the things i was able to learn bout Artificial intelligence.
