Group One Chapters 1-4 "Preparing your presentation"

 

    Chapter 1, my group spoke about speaking and learning about effective public presentation. Speaking is a life skill. The roles that public speaking plays in society. Learn about the tips for public speaking and to avoid problems with you audience. They talked about the process of presentation. Chose vital topics, focusing on important issues. They explained how to become an effective speaker by logos, ethos, and pathos. They discuss how to reduce your fears of presenting. Chapter 2 talked about the foundations of public communication.  The foundation is invention, organization, style, understanding, delivery. is about you first speaking experience and how to adapt to different speaking situation. Tips for planning your presentations and what to include. Chapter 3 is about the first step to selecting a topic. Focusing on vital topics relevant to you and your audience. Whether you are familiar with it or had to do research of an unfamiliar topic. They talked about how to evaluate topics and its purpose.  So, chapter 4 is my part of the project. I talked about the purposes of speech, general purpose, specific purpose and explained what they are. I explained about the types of speeches which are persuasive, informative and occasion speech.  They also talked about audience analysis and audience’s interest. Adapting to your audience and making sure the message you’re talking about is appropriate for them.

Group Two Chapters 5-9 "Selecting and arranging content"



    For chapter 5 they talked about helping you to find the information you will use to prepare a presentation and how to evaluate sources. They explained the steps of presentation preparation, library resources and internet/web source and how to find information using both types of sources. They also explained about the type of search engines and how some of these online sources are not always reliable. Also, looking for the extension is a way to find out if the sources are reliable and profited. They talked about Interviews, both how to prepare for interview and to conduct one. The types of supporting material such as narratives, testimonies, surveys, and statics. Chapter 6 they spoke about the principles the construction of speech outline, the various types of outline and specific strategies for creating your speech. They talked about how important it is to have good organization and it allows the listeners to better understand. The outlining of a presentation is the initial conception. They went in dept about the different types of organizations and how to introduce and conclude a presentation. Chapter 7 was about how to deliver a speech. They talked about how it should sound conversational and natural. Be comfortable in about the topic that you’re presenting. It’s not easy to deliver the perfect speech but takes a lot of practice. They talked and explained the 5 modes of delivering a speech. Chapter 8 was about choosing your words and how they are symbolic and expressive. They talked about the importance to choose your words wisely. Take into consideration of what you say and how you say it. And by improving your wording by simplifying, substitutions, and credibility. For chapter 9 is about how we use multiple senses to learn and combinations of senses. They talked about using visual aids and visual imagery and how depending on the type it can either bore you or get your attention. They talked sensory aids and explained how it can stimulate listeners. The capacity to use multiple senses in is important in speaking situation when used effectively. Modern speakers rely on computer software tools for sensory aids. Sensory aids help the listener remember and learn the information. It helps the listeners to know exactly what you’re talking and to better explain more effectively.

Group Three chapters 10-12 "Types of presentation"



    Chapter 10 they discussed on you can help people learn within your presentation. They also talked about the 5 principles of learning. In an informative speech you want to add to what those already know because you want them to accept your information. To help the audience understand why they should be invested, by increasing their knowledge on a topic. Focus on the main ideas, concrete ideas, clear introduction, and applying information. Chapter 11 is about communicating. They spoke about on to improve your message. You can improve your message by clarity, structure, and counterarguments. They explained the 6 basic ethical principles.  Persuasive presentations are intended to influence audience members' views, feelings, or actions. Chapter 12 is about special occasion presentation. They talked about the characteristic of special occasion presentation. Which are is the purpose, style, and organization. They talked about the types of special occasion presentation, such welcoming, paying tribute, farewells, recognition and entertain.  They talked about how to prepare for these types of speeches with context, purpose, and audience. Special occasion speeches will reward, nominate, or give a celebratory speech.

    Overall, this group project allowed us to learn more about public speaking/presentation. It was a creative way to get through the book. Each group did well on presenting their presentation and they were organized. Every group had their own creative presentations. It was very informative and the information that I learned I can apply to my next project to improve for speaking or presenting.

BLOG #2- GROUP 1- ESTEPHANIE FARACH

Artificial intelligence leverages computers and machines to mimic the problem solving and decision making capabilities of the human mind. We had three groups do fantastic presentations on Artificial intelligence and how they are affecting or changing different topics for the better or for the worse.  The first group that presented was group three. This group was assigned to speak about Artificial intelligence in social life, entertainment, and potential careers. I learned during this presentation that some people are all for the upcoming changes while some others are not.
